House Sport Report - Week 4

Throughout the school year Houses will compete in different sporting events to see which House will be crowned overall House Sport Champions on Speech Day.

Athelstan, Damer, Hambro and Tregonwell will battle it out in both junior and senior events for the boys’ cup.  Whilst the girls will be split into three intra-house teams - MacArthur, Granger and Holmes – and will compete in separate events to see who wins the girls’ cup. Points will be awarded in each sporting event and the total at the end of the year will determine the winner. The winner of each competition will have their House colours displayed on the trophy for the year.

Two events have already taken place this term:

Basketball

The Sunday before exeat saw 10 games of entertaining senior basketball. Every team played with determination and all the games were very competitive. Hughie’s competed very well and should be proud of their efforts. In the final match Athelstan beat Damer 4-0 meaning Athelstan took 1st place beating Hambro by 1 point.

Swimming

Last Tuesday, 72 competitors took part in House Swimming.  All Houses were well represented. Tregonwell went in as favourites but there were a number of surprisingly strong swimmers that had been specialising in other sports this term and this made for a very close competition.

The level was so high that a number of School Records were broken.  In one extraordinary 50m Butterfly race, 3 swimmers broke the previous School Record.  Emre is now the holder of the 50m Backstroke and Butterfly records.  Ralph adds 50m Breaststroke to his long list of School Records.  He was also part of the Tregonwell team, with John, Vasily and Hugo, that broke the Freestyle Relay record. Roo also impressed throughout the gala.

In the lower years we saw evidence of some rising talent with Bryn, Cameron, Harry, Jake, Darius and Bug all impressing.

Mrs Burg was impressed by the efforts made by all, especially Hughie’s who competed well. The Junior Swimming Cup goes to Damer and the Senior Swimming Cup to Tregonwell.
