Sports Report: Week 10

A round up of sports results from Week 10 of the Summer Term, by Mr Lawes, Director of Sport.

Cricket

The 1st XI and U15s had a frustrating Saturday with the weather cancelling both matches after we had travelled to the Isle of Wight.  However the 1st XI finished the season with a great win against the staff on Friday.  Good batting from Stephen and George set up a good score with Mr Bradbury taking four wickets.  Despite Mr Baney's fine batting the staff fell short - a good evening played in the right spirit and a well deserved win for the boys.

The U14 cricket team suffered two similar defeats last week.  In both games they bowled well to restrict their opponents to quite modest totals but were unable to chase down these scores to secure victory.  Against Gillingham, Hugo was 'player of the match' for his controlled leg spin bowling and sensible batting.  On Saturday against Ryde, Hugo once again tackled the opponents' batting by taking four wickets in two overs to help restrict them to 70 all out.  Unfortunately despite a valliant effort with the bat from James, Milton Abbey ended just a few runs short.

The U15s had a hard game against Gillingham.  Gillingham scored an impressive 170, with batsmen clearing the ropes frequently.  In reply, MA lost regular wickets ad only Jake was able to make inroads scoring an aggressive 58, as MA ended on 120 all out.

Tennis

The Junior Boys played Warminster on Saturday.  After a lethargic start the boys played some good tennis but ultimately Warminster were the stronger team, with Milton Abbey needing to be more patient with their build-up play rather than going straight for the winner.
