Sports Report: Week 8

A round up of sports results from Week 8 of the Summer Term, by Mr Lawes, Director of Sport.

Cricket

The U15s enjoyed a competitive T20 match against Clayesmore, who scored 145 batting first.  In reply, MA lost wickets regularly, but made it to 115 thanks to contributions all down the order and some big hitting from Rollo and Freddie.

The U14 cricket team had a convincing win against Blandford.  A number of players made a start but failed to go on to get a big score with Oscar's 25 being the best effort.  Hugo, Ibrahim and James took 5 wickets between them and the team were not able to succeed against an undefeated Clayesmore side.  It was a difficult game and disappointing that we did not get closer to their score.

The 1st XI also played Clayesmore and competed well but ultimately lost.  Well done to Archie who produced the best bowling of the season.

Athletics

On Thursday we took seven Fourth Form athletes to a fixture at Bryanston where they competed against many schools much larger than Milton Abbey.  All our athletes put in a fantastic effort but special mention must go to Ella who won the high jump with a height of 1m 45, and Lucas who came 2nd in his javelin event, throwing a distance of 36.23m.

On Saturday we had two athletes competing for North Dorset in the County Trials.  Ralph completed his 800m race in 5th place and Luchino came 4th in the javelin.  Both boys did an excellent job competing against the best athletes in the county.
