Articles by Alastair Bruce and Magnus Bashaarat in latest edition of School House magazine

Milton Abbey has been featured in two articles in the Autumn/Winter edition of School House magazine, written by former pupil, Sky News commentator and historical advisor to Downton Abbey Alastair Bruce, and Headmaster Magnus Bashaarat.

Alastair Bruce's fascinating article, entitled 'An Abbey's Spirit', pays tribute to his time at Milton Abbey, the School's beautiful surroundings and its unique ability to nurture natural talents, "Yes, I hated games and they had to be avoided, but this school somehow helped you avoid what was not your forte and find out what was...I have utterly loved the challenge of life because Milton Abbey let me thrive, taught me to speak confidently...provided the steel to succeed in the things that counted..."

He continues, "Two years ago, I was invited back to speak to pupils and parents on speech day.  Observing the leavers - the sportsmen and women, the musicians, academics, artists and budding young entrepreneurs - I had a strong feeling that the very same Milton Abbey ethos, which takes the time to nurture, celebrate and encourage, both endures and thrives."

Milton Abbey's Headmaster, Magnus Bashaarat, has also written a fascinating article highlighting the merits of the School's unique culture of cultivating entrepreneurial ambition, which in turn has led to the launch of the Entrepreneur in Residence scheme, now in its third year.  Mr Bashaarat explains, "Our entrepreneur in residence scheme is in its third year and is about recognising a gap in the traditional education system, which assumes that exams followed by university and then followed by the workplace is the only route to success.  At Milton Abbey we recognise that giving pupils knowledge, confidence and experience of enterprise may help some of our pupils far more with far more exciting consequences."  The article continues, "Entrepreneurialism is deeply embedded in Milton Abbey.  You only have to look at the successful careers of many Old Miltonians to recognise that.  The ethos of entrepreneurialism permeates parents, as well as current pupils who are already running businesses while still at school...Truly, the thread of enterprise is tightly woven into the fabric of the school.  But we are first and foremost a school where you can excel in whatever field you choose."
