MASPA Wine and Port Tasting Trip to Portugal

This was the third overseas MASPA wine tasting trip and it had a lot to live up to after wonderful weekends in Champagne and Tuscany over the past two years.

It is fair to say that many of our group, 34 Milton Abbey parents in all, didn't arrive with set expectations as to what Porto and the Douro Valley had to offer, however almost from the start we realised that we were in for a very special weekend.

We were looked after beautifully by the two great British port families - Adrian Bridge's Fladgate Partnership and the Symington family - staying in wonderfully located hotels and visiting beautifully kept vineyards in the Douro and Porto based lodges where we had fascinating tours.  We learned a great deal about the history of the area and how the British came to be involved in the port business, about the different styles and vintages of port and we also tasted some delicious Portuguese wines.  Our final day exploring Porto, looking over at the city from the vantage point of the terraces and infinity pool of The Yeatman Hotel was every bit as enjoyable as the more organised part of the trip.

It was a wonderful weekend and we were delighted that parents from Nairobi and, a little closer to home, Milan were able to join those of us setting out from the U.K.
