Equine Jemima in the L6th Form has been working very hard with her horse "Pipsqueak" and it has paid off with a very deserving win in her Dressage class on Saturday at Moreton Equestrian Centre. Football The 1st XI beat Warminster 3-1 on Saturday. It was a close match with both teams desperate for the win. Cesare scored the first goal in the first 10 minutes which gave us momentum. Milo saw a goal disallowed for offside but Denis scored another soon after. Luckily our goalkeeper Benji was on excellent form but Warminster managed to find the back of the net. Cesare sealed the victory by running the whole of the opposition's half to score. Man of the match was Benji for stopping so many shots. The 2nd XI recorded a win on Saturday against Warminster. This was a pleasing team performance with every player including substitutes making positive contributions to the game. MA took the lead from a well taken chance by Will. Din, Matteo and Charlie defended fantastically throughout. Juan, Federico, Pedro and Cam created lots of chances. AaRon then scored twice to secure the win. Captain Cam controlled the mid-field and was man of the match. Hockey The 1st XI had a tough fixture away to Monkton. It was a fast paced game with Monkton passing the ball around superbly. They quickly started finding the net to take a clear lead. The Abbey were playing some good hockey and a fantastic counter attack saw captain Will score. We improved in the second half and Bertie added a second but the damage was already done. Oscar played particularly well in goal. A deserved win for Monkton. The 2nd XI started slowly and we were two goals down early on. The team then woke up and started to play some quality hockey, especially Piers and Sam. The second half saw Piers score from a short corner and Alex made his 2nd team debut. The final score was 5-1. Netball A very positive performance from the 1st VII. The defence of Hannah, Carla and Jess were superb, putting to opposition under pressure. They made interception after interception. Hatty never stopped driving forward and had the measure of her opponent throughout. The Thomas Hardyes shooters were more on form than ours. Lessons learnt, we move on to play Sexey’s this Thursday. Rugby The U16 Rugby Sevens Tournament on Sunday was the first time many of our boys had played the format. They competed hard in all the matches despite the injuries and illness. In two games MA were two scores up and showed massive potential. Gabriel was a real weapon on the wing, James impressed massively in defence and Gabriel Flanagan was our man of the tournament. Looking forward to hosting another Tournament on Sunday 5th March for the U18s.
