Sports Results - Week 8

A round-up of sports results from week 8 of the Summer Term by Mr Lawes, Head of Sport.

Athletics
On Saturday Milton Abbey took 3 athletes to compete at Dorset Championships after qualifying earlier on in the season. Ella ran a great 3000m race, coming first in the Senior Girls event with a time of 11 minutes 48 seconds, she also came second in the 1500m. Rob T battled through an injury for 3rd position in the 400m. Gabe came 2nd in his heat of the Inter Boys 100m and won the Inter Boys Long Jump Event with an impressive jump of 6metres 18. An incredible performance which means he has qualified for the South West Championships this Saturday. We wish him all the best at this fixture.

Tennis
The senior girls faced Warminster on Saturday afternoon with 4 pairs. The girls played some fantastic tennis. It was great to see lots of long rallies being won by the girls. All the work they have been doing in practise has clearly payed off. Well done to 1st pair Sophie D and Paige and 3rd pair Anna and Sophie W for an unbeaten afternoon and special mention to Hannah and Daisy for their first win. The U15 girls put up a good fight in their match. Well done to first pair Amelie and Violet for some great rallies and special mention goes to Lexie and India for a tremendous effort. Well done girls.

Cricket
1st XI – Won by 7 runs
MA batted first and were in trouble at 50 for 7. However Piers, Archie, Ollie and a lot of extras allowed MA to fight back to a modest 107. Angus and Harry opened the bowling. Harry bowled quickly and Angus swung the ball nicely picking up 2 wickets. Archie and Piers continued to take wickets and strangle the HCS batsmen. The stage was set; HCS required 10 runs from 12 balls. Jamie S took the ball and bowled a wicket maiden. James W then took the final wicket to ensure a fine win. Man of the match, Piers.

U15s – Won by 53 runs
An outstanding batting performance by Dan saw Milton Abbey score 189. Dan scored a blistering 105 from 67 balls, with 15 fours and 3 sixes, despite younger brother Joe trying his hardest to run him out first ball! Dan now averages 49 for the season, and has scored nearly 300 runs. His opening partnership with Max really is a force to be reckoned with, and if they both fire in the same game a truly huge score is possible. The opposition never managed to get close in a much improved fielding performance, Tom took 3 wickets and Maxim, Ibrahim and James F took 2 wickets each.
