Sports Results - Week 8

A round-up of sports results from week 8 of the Lent Term by Ben Lawes, Head of Sport.

Football

1st XI v Canford – Lost 3-2
1st XI v Clayesmore – Lost 3-2
It has been a hard week for the 1st XI who lost both their games despite taking the lead. Two fantastic free kicks from man of the match Cesare gave us the lead of 2-1 in windy conditions against Canford. We held onto the lead but with just 15 minutes to go 2 late goals cost us the victory.
We were then 2-0 up against Clayesmore but they came back strong to level and then score the winning goal. Two great games. We need to learn to not panic when under pressure.

2nd XI v Canford – Lost 7-4
The 2nd XI lost an exciting game against Canford. After playing into the wind we reached the break 5-2 down. Our two goals by Cameron and Aaron.  In the second half Will scored but their goalkeeper was on outstanding form. MA was given hope when 'super-sub' Luke fired home into the top left corner but eventually we ran out of time. Nikhil and Juan worked tirelessly and Man of the Match was Matteo.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

At the historic Fido May Harrow Shooting Competition, the Milton Abbey team of Archie, Zach, Will and George, came third overall. MA started nervously but soon settled in and delivered some excellent shooting. Archie and George shot particularly well. The difference between first place and third was only 4 clays and we beat many of the strongest sports schools in the country. A fantastic achievement.

Netball

1st VII v Stonar - Lost
The 1st VII played very well showing great team work and determination. Hatty and Poppy played well in attack while in defence Carla and Hannah put lots of pressure on the opposition. Our best performance of the season so far.

2nd VII v Stonar – Lost
The 2nd VII played really well despite being a few team members down. Tilly and Abbi proved to be great defensive players keeping their opponents closely marked. Special mention goes to Tabs W for her strong play.

U15 v Stonar - Drew
The U15s showed their true potential. The team provided a professional performance which was exciting to watch. Player of the match, Violet, showed her strength and class. Amelie, Gaia and Aly all played well in attack. In defence India, Ava, Leila and Amie all worked hard. 17 all – a great performance.

Hockey

1st XI v Thomas Hardye - Drew 2-2
A slightly disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Thomas Hardye. Anton was MVP with both goals and a fine performance. MA built up play well but couldn’t find the end product in the second half with their goalkeeper making some fine saves.

Mixed 1st XI v MAA – lost 6-3
It was a competitive match against the old Miltonians (predominantly a male team). A hat trick of goals from our German goal machine Anton gave us a chance of victory. He is a fine player and will be missed when he returns to his homeland later this month following his Round Square exchange with us. Thank you to our joint captains Sophie and Will for helping sort out the team.

House Hockey
A brilliant afternoon of hockey with over 60 boys in house colours filling the astro. The Senior Competition was close with Athelstan taking the overall victory, followed by Damer, Tregonwell and then Hambro. The Junior Competition was a little more one sided with Hambro winning all their games to finish 1st. Athelstan in 2nd, Damer in 3rd and Tregonwell in 4th.   A great afternoon.  The winning captains from Athelstan and Hambro will collect their trophies from the Headmaster in Assembly.
