The School Day

Boarding and Day

Our School Day is shaped to provide a varied and balanced mix of lessons, sport, co-curricular activities and student-led study. We review it regularly to incorporate the best practice in child development and learning.

THE SCHOOL DAY

One significant difference to other boarding schools is holding our Personal Study Period – commonly known as ‘prep time’ for completing assignments – before Supper.

Research shows young people are more attuned for learning at this time of the day, plus it means more subject teachers are available to assist with ‘prep work’ and that the evenings can be kept free for co-curricular activities.

Another important factor is to ensure that Day Pupils feel as involved in the life of the school as their friends who board. This means they share the same Houses, are able to attend for Breakfast or Supper if they wish, and that they are on the school grounds for the Personal Study Periods in the early-evening and for all our timetabled sport.

THE SCHOOL SITE

Located on the Dorset Rivera, in Southern England, our historic Grade 1 listed mansion and Abbey is surrounded by 180 acres of beautiful countryside, forest and hills in a national ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’

In addition to our well-equipped classrooms and specialist learning facilities, we are proud to offer an on-site School Farm and Stables. These provide invaluable practical experience for pupils enrolled in our land-based programmes, including Level 2 and Level 3 BTEC courses in Equine and Countryside Management.

Students benefit from hands-on learning in a real working environment, allowing them to develop the skills, confidence, and industry knowledge essential for future careers. Pupils (particularly Sixth Form) studying Level 3 Horse Management, also have the opportunity to bring their own ponies or horses to school through our assisted livery scheme, further enriching their practical learning experience.
