International Students

Milton Abbey offers exciting and modern courses, partnered with the best British Boarding School traditions. International students learn and play alongside their UK-based friends, while experiencing beautiful British countryside and making friends for life.

International students make up around 25% of the School and come from more than 25 different countries. As a result, we are truly cosmopolitan, with no predominant group and students of all nationalities sharing their school time together.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

International students can take EAL lessons and also choose to participate in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS programme will assist them to prepare for examinations that are required by most UK universities as part of the admissions process for pupils whose first language is not English. Additional study support can also be arranged for overseas students taking BTEC courses.

Each student is provided with a tailored programme, depending on their individual needs. Any additional charges will depend upon the number of individual and/or group lessons included in the agreed EAL programme.

Heathrow Airport Transfers

We also provide additional services to make life easier for our busy international families, including a free transfer service to and from Heathrow Airport, plus the option for international students to stay at school during our extended weekend breaks (called 'Exeats').

From September 2019, we have offered overseas students free transfers to and from London Heathrow Airport at the start of term, Half-Term and at the end of term. The service does not run during Exeat weekends, but parents are welcome to take up the offer of students staying in School during these periods.

Chaperones will meet students at Terminals 2, 3 and 5 at Arrivals. Any pupils arriving to Terminal 4 will need to make their way to these meeting points.

Collection service: 12:00-16:00

All students booked on flights arriving during the ‘collection window’ will be greeted at Arrivals by a Milton Abbey chaperone. Pupils whose flight arrives earlier and who wish to use the service will be asked to meet at an arranged collection point inside one of the terminals. The bus will leave Heathrow Airport at 16:00 and will be expected to arrive at school at 19:30 depending on road conditions.

Drop-off service: 16:00

The bus will leave Milton Abbey School at 13:00 and will arrive at Heathrow Airport between 15:45-16:00, depending on road conditions. Please ensure that if you are using this service that you have allowed sufficient boarding time for your booked flight.

The dates for each Collection and Drop-Off services are those shown on our School Term Times page and we will send emails to our international parents to remind them.

Exeat Weekends

Every term, the School has two Exeat weekends and one Half-Term break for international students to go home or to stay with family or friends in the UK. In the term starting in September, the Half-Term break lasts for two weeks and in the terms starting in January and April, it is for one week. The School is shut during Half-Terms and School Holidays.

We recognise the need for students to have breaks at home and with their families, so we do not offer a residential service for Half-Terms and longer School Holidays. However, we are also aware that it can be difficult to get home during Exeats for those who live a long way from the UK.

To help, we now offer our overseas students organised Exeat weekends in School and will keep a fully staffed Boarding House open during all Exeat weekends. These weekends will offer pupils a mixture of cultural trips, sporting activities and some well-earned rest in our care.

In order to plan the Exeat weekend activities and to provide the airport transfer service, we do need to know numbers in advance. The bus service needs to be booked a term in advance and Exeat Weekend stays need to be booked at the start of each term.

Current parents can request a booking form for these services by emailing
