International Students

Milton Abbey offers exciting and modern courses, partnered with the best British Boarding School traditions. International students learn and play alongside their UK-based friends, while experiencing beautiful British countryside and making friends for life. We are proud to have a Student Sponsor Licence which allows us to assign Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to a certain number of students who wish to come to, or stay in, the UK to study. Please contact us if you have any questions about our responsibility.

International students make up around 33% of the School and come from more than 20 different countries. As a result, we are truly cosmopolitan, with no predominant group and students of all nationalities sharing their school time together.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

International students can take EAL lessons and also choose to participate in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS programme will assist them to prepare for examinations that are required by most UK universities as part of the admissions process for pupils whose first language is not English. Additional study support can also be arranged for overseas students taking BTEC courses.

Each student is provided with a tailored programme, depending on their individual needs. Any additional charges will depend upon the number of individual and/or group lessons included in the agreed EAL programme.

Travel and Airport Transfers

The school operates a chargeable bus service for Exeats and Half Term breaks. The Salisbury service connects with the train station, where there are direct trains to London Waterloo. Parents are responsible for booking onward rail tickets from Salisbury and communicating travel arrangements to House.

Bookings for the bus service must be made using an online form, that will be issued before each Exeat and Half Term break. All bookings must be made using this booking form and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. One piece of luggage is allowed, but not bicycles.

For pupils who live overseas, parents can make bookings for trains to Heathrow, Gatwick and Southampton airports from Salisbury. The school can also assist in booking a taxi where this is preferred and appropriate for your child. Alternatively, you can arrange a private car booking and seek the assistance of your child's UK guardian to provide a chaperone if required.

Exeat Weekends

Every term, the School has two Exeat weekends and one Half-Term break for international students to go home or to stay with family, friends or guardians in the UK. In the term starting in September, the Half-Term break lasts for two weeks and in the terms starting in January and April, it is for one week. The School is shut during Half-Terms and School Holidays.

However, we are also aware that it can be difficult to get home during Exeats for those who live a long way from the UK, so we offer limited beds at school during Exeat for those who are unable to stay with their UK-based guardian as usual, these are called Ineats.
